Educational Establishments

Many excluded pupils attend alternative provisions. This type of unit supports children with their learning in small groups to reintegrate them into mainstream school. Referring pupils to this type of provision should be the last result, and the school has exhausted every option. Many pupils in alternative provision have challenging and disruptive behaviour that is difficult to manage in a mainstream school; some pupils are already involved in the youth justice system for committing offences and have a referral order by the youth courts.

Our aim and objective are to assist mainstream schools and alternative
provisions with pupils who display challenging behaviour and reduce
school exclusion.

Our bespoke tailored programme will focus on the pupil’s social, emotional and behavioural difficulties with the aim that they build resilience and a positive attitude to learning. Pupils who face permanent exclusion are more at risk of offending as they are considered vulnerable by the older groups in their community.

The levels of black males excluded from school are overrepresented. There is a growing concern with pupils with SEND falling through the cracks at school; they, too, are being excluded along with pupils with emotional, social, and mental health issues. More support is needed to prevent pupils from school exclusion as this can cause them to have no sense of hope.
